This week, we’re sitting down with Harry Burns, Senior Consultant at AD Offshore. Let’s dive into his story:

What inspired you to join AD Offshore and how did you first hear about us?

“Originally, I was actually a candidate. Having been Sarah’s candidate, we built up a strong relationship, and I got a good understanding of what AD was like as a company. So, when I got the phone call to gauge my interest, it felt like it ticked a lot of boxes for me.”

Can you share a standout moment from your first week/month here?

“In my first week, I shadowed Shannon, and when he talked through the number of placements he’d made that month, I realised I was in for a challenge. Somehow, he still wasn’t satisfied with the insane number of candidates he had successfully placed in just 30 days. Credit where it’s due, he holds himself to high standards and gave me a clear idea of how I should approach my own work.”

What were your first impressions of the team and the company culture?

“AD, in my view, is a paradox. In some ways, it’s like every other office, with supportive team members and a mix of different personalities. But at the same time, it’s unlike any other office I’ve worked in… and I mean that in the best way possible.”

How has working at AD impacted your life?

“It’s changed my life in many ways. It’s given me the opportunity to connect with fantastic candidates and clients, work on meaningful projects, and gain exposure to areas that are helping to shape and grow my career.”

How has your role evolved since you started?

“Thanks to my background in marketing and my interest in creating videos and content for my own profile, I was brought in by our Group Managing Director to produce videos for the team. I’ve also taken on more client work, which I really enjoy, especially as it gives me the chance to build strong relationships with a variety of businesses.”

What skills have you gained or developed during your time with us?

“I’ve had a lot of different experiences over the years, but the skill I’ve developed the most is adaptability. In this role, you really have to think outside the box—every candidate and client has unique circumstances, so no two situations are ever the same.”

Tell us about a project or achievement you’re particularly proud of?

“One of my biggest achievements is consistently earning a place on our incentive trips. Being part of the select few who qualify for these incredible experiences—trips I likely wouldn’t have done on my own—means a lot to me.”

How has working here helped you grow personally or professionally?

“Working here has helped me grow in both areas. Professionally, I’ve expanded my skills, taken on more responsibility, and gained confidence in my abilities. Personally, the role has helped me become more resilient and better at handling high-pressure situations.”

What’s your favourite part of your job?

“My favourite part is the success stories—the follow-up conversations with candidates who’ve just started or have been thriving in their new roles. Hearing how happy they are makes all the hard work feel incredibly worthwhile.”

How would you describe the culture at AD in three words?

“Outgoing, rewarding, sociable.”

What’s the most surprising or unexpected thing you’ve learned while working here?

“What’s surprised me most is how much candidate priorities have shifted over time. Today, company culture, flexibility, and progression are major factors in their decision-making process.”

Can you share a time when the team or leadership made a difference to your day?

“I owe a lot of my career growth to Bill, my line manager. Like everyone in the industry, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges, and I really appreciate the guidance and support he’s given me to navigate them.”

If you could give one piece of advice to someone joining AD, what would it be?

“I’d say you’re joining the best recruitment company on the island. But remember, you reap what you sow. If you’re willing to put in the work, the rewards can be significant.”

What’s your favourite team tradition or event?

“It’s hard to pick just one. The yacht trip in Croatia is always a highlight, it’s the ultimate reward. But I also really enjoy the smaller Friday gatherings after work, when whoever’s around fancies a beer and some food. Both are great in their own way.”
