Introducing our brand new series, More Than Just a Job: Life at AD Offshore, a collection of interviews with the people that make up our business!
We’re always striving to be as transparent with our customers and clients as possible, so we thought it’d be a great idea to take a look behind the curtain and see what makes AD Offshore tick – the people, the culture and our approach to life across the islands.
This week, we’re sitting down with Foo Pearson, Senior Consultant at AD Offshore. Let’s dive into her story:
What inspired you to join AD Offshore and how did you first hear about us?
“I’ve actually known Sarah and Steve, who set up the local office, for years and years. Sarah approached me back in 2016 and encouraged me to apply. And well, the rest is history!”
Can you share a standout moment from your first week/month here?
“My ‘first day’ was actually at the Winter Conference, in Birmingham, with the whole company. We were all set a team task to raise funds for a chosen charity. We then found ourselves out on the streets, shaking buckets on a VERY COLD January day! A fab bonding experience!”
What were your first impressions of the team and the company culture?
“Absolutely AMAZING! From day one, I felt like I was joining a really warm and welcoming environment. Everyone genuinely feels like one big family, and that friendly vibe stretches right across the whole group.”
How has working at AD impacted your life?
“Working at AD has had a hugely positive impact on my life – especially financially. It gave me the stability and support I needed to finally pay off a long-standing debt I’d been carrying since leaving home, which was such a relief. From there, I was able to achieve two of my biggest goals: buying a new house – and, most importantly, rescuing my beloved cat, Cee Cee, from Spain, which was JUST THE DREAM!”

How has your role evolved since you started?
“I would say I have become more confident and focused. I’ve grown in understanding how the process fits together and how to support both clients and candidates more effectively.”
What skills have you gained or developed during your time with us?
“I feel I have definitely developed stronger communication and relationship-building skills, as well as sharpening my organisational skills, and learning to manage priorities more effectively.”
Tell us about a project or achievement you’re particularly proud of?
“Not a project as such, but there is one standout placement I will always remember. A candidate, who was also a friend, was looking to make a career change, but had almost given up hope after a string of unsuccessful direct applications. We worked together to reformat their CV, tailoring it specifically to the roles we were targeting. Along the way, I helped with boosting their confidence so they could really shine at interviews. Since then, they have progressed amazingly – and are now a super senior member of staff at a large global organisation, which is just SO FAB to see!”
How has working here helped you grow personally or professionally?
“Working here has pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way. Professionally, I’ve grown more confident in my abilities and learned to handle a wider range of challenges. Personally, I feel more empathetic and patient, having listened to people’s stories and helped them through important career decisions.”
What’s your favourite part of your job?
“I love that no two days are the same, but helping people achieve their dream jobs is the best vibe! Of course, the people and the culture at AD are the best too!”

How would you describe the culture at AD in three words?
“FUN! Hardworking and rewarding.”
What’s the most surprising or unexpected thing you’ve learned while working here?
“Recruitment is not as easy as it might seem! It might look simple – just matching candidates with jobs – but there is way more to it. You have to really get what makes people tick, manage everyone’s expectations, and handle all the little surprises that pop up along the way. Timing and chemistry play a massive role! It is definitely more of an art than I expected, but that is what makes it so interesting and rewarding.”
Can you share a time when the team or leadership made a difference to your day?
“We are all a really supportive bunch – always encouraging each other, celebrating the wins together, and being there through the tough times too.”
If you could give one piece of advice to someone joining AD, what would it be?
“You definitely get out what you put in. AD is 100% a “work hard, play hard” kind of place! Get stuck in, be yourself, and enjoy the ride!”
What’s your favourite team tradition or event?
“ALL OF THEM! But I think my favourite company event (so far!) was when we hired a super yacht and set sail around the islands of Croatia last summer over a few days – it was WORLD CLASS!”
